Paul Pogba has entered the final year of his contract with Manchester United and the Premier League club are desperate to tie him down to a new deal.

Man United had to trigger a one-year extension to be able to hold contract talks with the midfielder but if Ian McGarry is to be believed then the Frenchman and his agent might have other plans.

Football consultant McGarry said on the Transfer Window Podcast, as quoted by The Sport Review: “We reported on the podcast two months ago that Manchester United had offered an olive branch to Mino Raiola and Paul Pogba with regards to generating conversations about a new contract for a player who is out of contract in the summer of 2022.

“That invitation is yet to be taken up – it hasn’t been taken up. No substantial conversations have taken place.

“People are starting to get in a frenzy about Pogba, Raiola and what happens next because clearly with [Gianluigi] Donnarumma’s signing to PSG in the last year of his contract at AC Milan, he has followed through with the ability of modern players to run down their contract despite being worth tens of millions of pounds and move for free, therefore raking in the financial gain and being able to choose his next club rather than be sold by his parent club.

“It looks increasingly likely to me that’s what Pogba’s tactic is as well. He is still a young man who can afford to play out next season at Old Trafford and then move on a freedom of contract.”

Will Paul Pogba run down his contract?

Recently, Paul Pogba had claimed that he is yet to hear anything concrete from the Man United management in terms of a new deal. But we have a feeling that even if he was offered a new and significantly improved contract, the World Cup winner will probably turn it down.

Had Man United won a silverware this season then things might have panned out a bit differently but we doubt if Pogba will be ready to spent another three/four years with the Old Trafford outfit.

By looking to head out this summer, the 28-year-old will obviously end up at a club which Manchester United find feasible and financially viable. But next year, he will be able to join a club of is choice.

Paul Pogba had a mixed 2020/21 season due to a few injury setbacks but whenever he is on song, the midfielder has the ability to single-handedly turn the outcome of a game. And, in all honesty, it will be really hard for Manchester United to replace a player like him, especially if they won’t be getting even a dime from his exit.
