Is this 28 Y/O playmaker coming back to Liverpool for the 2021/22 season?

Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona are looking to balance their books before they prepare for the new season and in a bid to cut off their losses, the Spanish side are offering Philippe Coutinho a return to Liverpool, as per AS.

The report claims: “Coutinho, to Liverpool. Philippe Coutinho was coming back for him when an injury, always inopportune, left him out of the team.

“His quality is beyond any doubt, but his permanence at Barça seems impossible since Barça still owes several amortization periods of his signing to Liverpool and has proposed to the English club the return of Coutinho and not pay him more than 50 million euros owed to you from your transfer.”

Barca paid £142million in 2018 for Philippe Coutinho but the playmaker has failed to recreate the magic which he showed for Liverpool over the years.

His time in Spain has been riddled with poor performances, so much so that the Catalans had even sent him out on loan to Bayern Munich last season.

During the 2020-21 campaign, Coutinho returned to Barcelona but has managed to play in only 12 La Liga matches for the club, scoring two and assisting two goals.

Barca have no interest in holding onto the playmaker and at the same time keep paying for his transfer which is why the management have decided to make such a call.

Last season, there was no chance that Jurgen Klopp would call back Philippe Coutinho to Liverpool but over the course of the year, a lot of things have changed at Anfield.

The Reds have failed to defend their Premier League title and players like Mane and Firmino have seen a massive slump in form. There’s no doubt that the Liverpool boss will be looking for attacking reinforcements this summer and in such a scenario the club can save a lot of money by taking back someone like Coutinho.

We are not sure how the Liverpool manager will react to this but he will obviously not get a massive transfer budget in the summer but at the same time, he is expected to compete with teams like Chelsea and Manchester City.

So, to make that happen, the German could very easily take Philippe Coutinho back with open arms during the upcoming months.

Philippe Coutinho is just 28 years old so he still has a lot of football to play and even the Brazilian will like to give his career a second chance by heading back to the club where he first game the superstar status.
