Wayne Rooney has suggested that Mauricio Pochettino will be a more unassailable bet to become the next Manchester United manager instead of Erik ten Hag.
Rooney spoke about a lot of things on Sky Sports this week and one of them was that he wanted his former side to bring in Poch because of his pedigree in the English top division.
He said on Sky Sports: “I think Pochettino has done it in the Premier League. He knows the Premier League and at Tottenham he brought a lot of players through.
“He did it at Southampton as well. If I’m choosing from one of the two, that’s who I’d choose. He would need to be given time to place his blueprint on the club and on the team. If you give him time, I think he’d do well.”
Mauricio Pochettino might be a major gamble:
There’s no denying that Pochettino had worked wonders with Spurs as well as Southampton but it’s also true that under him, the Lilywhites became massive chokers.
Man United need a manager who can win them trophies and sadly the Argentine did not win even a single trophy during his time in the Premier League. At PSG, he has won only two silverwares, a French Cup and a French Super cup.
Erik ten Hag believes the Man United job is a five-year project and that the first element he would correct is physical conditioning.
Manchester United did not feel he was particularly charismatic compared to another candidate in Pochettino.

At Spurs, he did very well with a limited budget but as soon as he was given a team of superstars, the 50-year-old has seen his graph take a nosedive.
He’s been unable to manage big players like Messi, Mbappe and Neymar as they had yet another disappointing Champions League campaign.
United are a team that have several big-name players like Sancho, Ronaldo and Fernandes so there’s a chance that Mauricio Pochettino will not be able to command the same respect that he had at Spurs.
Big players have bigger egos and we don’t think Pochettino is capable of handling superstars in his team. He needs a team of budding players and bargain signings so that he can nurture them and turn them into a top-four side at best.
Will Erik ten Hag be the safest bet right now for Manchester United?
Well, Ten Hag has also not handled any major superstars to date but he’s a far better tactician than Pochettino so that will be a major advantage for Manchester United.
Rangnick has recently revealed that United will now try and sign the players who will fit the manager’s requirements and not the other way round and if this is truly the case then Erik ten Hag could be the perfect fit.
🚨🎙• Marcel van der Kraan (Dutch journalist): “We know he [Ten Hag] has been in talks with #MUFC, we think it’s coming to the final stage of all the contracts now” @SkySportsNews 🔴🇳🇱

Also, the current Ajax boss won five major honours during his five-year stint with the club.
Multiple reports are claiming that the race is now between these two managers and to be brutally honest, the way Manchester United are playing, bringing on either one of these will be a gamble.
