Chelsea face Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend and Romelu Lukaku as well as Timo Werner will miss out with an injury.

Lukaku has been on the sidelines for a few weeks but he was expected to return to action this Saturday. And when pictures of him training had surfaced, everyone was sure that Romelu Lukaku will play this weekend.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case with Tuchel admitting that the Leicester game will come too early for the Belgian.

He told the press: ‘I can tell you Mateo and Romelu are out for the game in Leicester. Romelu is very close to team training, hopefully, he will join the squad on Sunday. Let’s see how this works out. He is pushing hard and trying to come back as soon as possible. We will try on Sunday.

‘It’s pure speculation and will not help. At the moment, we try hard for him to join team training on Sunday. If everything works out perfectly, he can maybe join the group on the bench, but there are a lot of ifs and I don’t want to put pressure on him. He is putting a lot of pressure on himself.

‘We will not rush things. We will take things seriously as always, we will have talks with the doctor and the physios and the player, and if there is something to be decided it will be on Monday evening.’

And if this was not enough then Timo Werner will also miss out as the German has also failed to make a full recovery and remains a doubt.

Tuchel added: ‘Timo is in team training since yesterday. Let’s see. We have another training. Then we will decide if it makes sense if he’s maybe in the squad or on the bench. We can only decide after his second training later.’

Will Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner be missed against Leicester City?

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner have been out for some time now and in that time frame, Kai Havertz has managed to hold fort pretty well. But Leicester are not any other team so the two regular forwards might turn out to be big misses on Saturday.

Also, while Havertz has done very well as a team player but the German has not been amongst the goals and this could ultimately turn out to be the stumbling block for Chelsea this weekend.

Havertz has netted only two goals in 10 Premier League games so far but with games coming thick and fast these minuscule returns will not be enough to hold onto the top spot in the table.

Leicester might have failed to win three of their previous outings but they are a side who can come back to form at any time. And with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner both missing, Tuchel might have to rely on his defender to see this one through.
