Ronald Araujo Aston Villa

According to Diario SPORT, Aston Villa coach Unai Emery, alongside sporting director Monchi were present during Barcelona’s game against Valencia and the duo discussed Ronald Araujo with the Barcelona management.

This is a very interesting and bold move by Emery because Ronald Araujo is not only one of Barcelona’s top players but he’s also been linked with European heavyweights like Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Apart from the Champions League, the 25-year-old has won every major trophy with the Catalans and so far, he’s played 149 games across all competitions.

Aston Villa will be playing in the Champions League next season which is why they are harbouring bigger ambitions but it’s an uphill task to sign Araujo, that too ahead of Bayern or even Chelsea.

Do Aston Villa have a chance of signing Ronald Araujo?

Ronald Araujo is one of the most valuable players in the Barcelona squad at €70 million and this is also a major reason why Laporta will look to cash in on him.

Barcelona have to generate a lot of funds in these coming months so players like Araujo and Frenkie de Jong could be allowed to leave. However, it’s almost impossible to see Aston Villa winning this particular transfer race.

The only reason why Barcelona will want to sell the 25-year-old is because of money but there’s no way Villa can afford to pay €80-85 million.

Villa need to sign players who have top-tier European experience but a move to Chelsea or Bayern Munich is much more realistic. The Blues want to bring in a replacement for Thiago Silva and Araujo can be the ideal heir and even Bayern won’t hesitate to pay a premium for the South American.

Last summer, Villa spent more than €100 million on player transfers amongst which was the club’s record signing of Moussa Diaby at €55 million. Villa’s transfer budget will definitely increase now that they are in the UCL but Emery won’t be allowed to spend so much money on a single player.

If Barcelona are planning to offload Ronald Araujo then the defender will much rather prefer to join Chelsea or Bayern over Villa and even though Diario Sport is claiming that Emery and Monchi were scouting Araujo there’s also a chance they were watching Christensen because some rumours are suggesting that Barca might listen to offers for him as well.
