Ruben Loftus-Cheek featured in midfield for Chelsea against Brighton in their Premier League season opener. But according to Gary Neville, the England international’s time at the Bridge might be very limited.
Neville feels Ruben Loftus-Cheek has failed to impress despite getting numerous chances and now with the arrival of players like Kai Havertz, the 24-year-old could very well be shown the door.
‘I thought, Loftus-Cheek, he’s been given his chance,’ Neville told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
‘I thought he was really disappointing. I don’t think Loftus-Cheek can complain. He’s been given games.
‘I don’t think he’s ever grasped his chance yet. There’s going to come a point when they’re going to cash in and get £25million for him.
‘When he was at Crystal Palace you thought “what a player”
‘He’s got to say he wants to play every single week. He’s not grabbed his chance tonight. If you get your chance you have to grab it. He’s had his chances now.’
Loftus-Cheek has been with Chelsea’s youth side since 2012 but constant injuries have really hampered his growth over the past couple of seasons.
On Monday, he played 61 minutes vs Brighton and looked really underwhelming so there’s every chance the manager might be drawing up plans to sell him off.
But having said this, we do not think Frank Lampard would risk offloading Ruben Loftus-Cheek during the on-going transfer window. At best, he could be sent out on a short-term loan spell.
