Chelsea take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Tuesday and Thomas  Tuchel has hinted that Tammy Abraham still has a chance to prove himself at the club.

Abraham had been in and out of the side under Frank Lampard but under Tuchel, the forward has fallen down the pecking order completely. Initially, he missed a few matches due to injury but now, even though he is fully fit, the 23-year-old is struggling to get game time.

Tammy Abraham has been on the bench for both the legs against FC Porto and also Crystal Palace but according to the manager, there’s an outside chance he could get a starting role against Brighton on Tuesday.

The manager told the press on Monday: ‘Everybody is concerned when they’re not in the squad but it’s never an easy decision for me to take. I have a lot of sympathy for him and I can understand that he is worried and sad and maybe angry with me when I make these decisions.

‘Sometimes we spend almost an hour talking after the last training which decisions to take and which players we have to leave at home because it’s thin margins which decide.

‘Tammy has had this decision now a few times against him which is never personal but this is life at Chelsea sometimes as a player. I hope that he does not get lost in too many thoughts because he knows not to be too concerned about his situation.

‘Everything he can do is stay focused and stay with belief because the situation for a striker can change in minutes. We have an important training coming up and my decisions [for tomorrow] are not made yet.’

The manager has clearly said all these kind words so that Tammy Abraham does not feel heartbroken. But the reality is that forward seems to have no future at Chelsea.

Tuchel is clearly preferring players like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as his main centre-forward and even when these two players are not playing, the manager has the option of someone like Olivier Giroud.

So, it’s almost impossible for Tammy Abraham to break into the side right now and we will be really surprised if Thomas Tuchel opts to use him up front against Brighton especially with a top-four place at stake.
