Tuchel drops a big selection hint for Chelsea’s away game vs Liverpool

Tammy Abraham, Azpiliceuta Chelsea Premier League

Chelsea travel to Anfield for their next Premier League fixture and there’s a big chance that Tammy Abraham might not feature in this game either.

The forward seems to have fallen down the pecking order under the new manager and against Man United on Sunday, he did not even make it to the matchday squad.

Now, there are question marks over his selection in midweek as well and while talking ahead of the game, Thomas Tuchel has hinted that Tammy Abraham might not feature in the first XI for a couple of reasons.

The manager told the press, as per Chelsea’s official website: ‘Tammy had some problems yesterday on his ankle again. Let’s see how this works out today.’

‘It’s my job to push him to his limits. We will not stop doing this and supporting him. It was a tough decision, but we have to make these decisions. It’s a part of my job I do not like, but at the same I like it because it means everybody is available.

‘We communicate these decisions clearly. We have to cut it down to 18 players. It’s not always a punishment or a signal, and that was the case here. It was just a choice from alternatives.

‘He lacks a bit of luck Tammy, not only in games but also in training, and once the last touch comes back he will be a player we will push forward.’

Olivier Giroud was the main front man for Chelsea last Sunday but the Frenchman was really underwhelming. So against Liverpool, Tuchel might look to use the pace of Timo Werner up front.

Werner is yet to find his form back but it’s clear that Tuchel is supporting the German more as opposed to Tammy Abraham. Also, the knock could be an issue for the 23-year-old and there’s a chance that he might not be 100% fit to start for Chelsea at Anfield.

Either way, we don’t see Tammy Abraham starting for the Blues vs Liverpool – at best he might come off the bench in the second half.
