Arsenal are back into action this weekend as they take on reigning Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium.

The Gunners have hardly gotten any time to rest since they had to play in the FA Cup final against Chelsea but on the other hand, Liverpool have had a pretty lengthy pre-season training camp at Austria.

So while Jurgen Klopp’s men will be going into this game on Saturday fully recharged, the same might not be the case for the Arsenal players.

But their manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his players will try and win another trophy rather than sulking about the short break

The manager said in his press conference: “We’ve had two training sessions so you can imagine that this game comes straight in the middle of our mini pre-season, but as well we haven’t had much time to lose a lot of the condition.

“Obviously it’s not an ideal moment to play in this final but the players are motivated. Obviously it’s another opportunity to win a trophy and we will go for it.

“What we don’t know is how they will react when they start to play every three days and when it gets to November, December, January because we put a lot of demands on them.

“The COVID [situation back in March] was a stop and then full gas they started, and you could see the injury rate went crazily up.

“We are going to try to protect them as much as possible, give them everything we can from the science and physical point of view to be in the best condition to perform.”

The Gunners undoubtedly go into this game as the underdogs but their win against Chelsea in the FA Cup final has proved that Arteta has the ability to chalk out trophy-winning tactics against the big teams.

The Arsenal manager has mostly a fit squad to choose from but with some new players coming in, the Gunners might take some time in getting back their rhythm on Saturday.
