Will this Arsenal player be fit enough to start vs Crystal Palace on Thursday?

Thomas Partey

Arsenal brought in Thomas Partey during the summer to be the pillar in central defence but all he’s done so far is spend time inside the medical room.

The 27-year-old picked up a hip injury during the first week of December as a result of which he’s played in only five Premier League games for the Gunners.

Thomas Partey had reported back to training a couple of days ago and was set to make his return to the starting XI on Saturday vs Newcastle United in the FA Cup. But not only was he not named in the playing XI but he was missing from the match-day squad as well which has led many to believe that the midfielder might have suffered another injury.

Thankfully, manager Mikel Arteta was quick to clear the air saying that the 27-year-old was just short of match fitness this weekend.

“We assessed the situation, how much training he’s done, the boxes that he ticked and he was still a little bit short,” Arteta explained, as per the Independent.

“Hopefully we will have him in the squad on Thursday.

“Let’s see how he trains in the next couple of days. He’s really good at the moment.”

Some pundits feel the midfielder should be ready to take on Crystal Palace on Thursday in the Premier League but we doubt if Arteta will want to show too much urgency.

Arsenal take on the likes of Southampton, Man United, Wolves and Aston Villa within the next month and Thomas Partey will have to be a part of these games – if Arsenal want to pick up maximum points.

The former Atletico man has been a positive influence for Arsenal in the games he’s played for them so far this season and Arteta will be hoping that his summer signing can pick up where he had left off.
