Chelsea will be looking to sign a new striker next summer and as per the latest reports, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will be their primary target.

The Blues signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona right before the end of the transfer window but the 33-year-old is not a long-term solution which is why Potter has asked the owners to bring in a new face and fresh up front.

Romelu Lukaku is out on loan to the Serie A but the new Chelsea manager has no interest in bringing him back to the club once the current season comes to an end. Lukaku isn’t keen to play for the Blues either which is why signing a new striker is of the utmost priority for Graham Potter.

Chelsea also hold an interest in Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic but the assumption is that the striker is not interested in leaving Turin next summer so trying to lure him to the EPL will be a monumental ask. However, signing Victor Osimhen won’t be a walk in the park either because several major clubs[like Bayern Munich] will be queuing up for his signature next summer.

Also, his contract with Napoli expires in 2025 and his current valuation is £58.5 million which means the Blues will have to break the bank in order to sign him.

Can Victor Osimhen make a difference at Chelsea?

Osimhen was a star performer for Lille, scoring 18 goals in 38 games and he’s kept this same form going at Napoli as well. To date, he’s played 70 games across all competitions for the Serie A side and he’s scored 32 goals.

His recent performance against Liverpool and Ajax in the Champions League was much talked about and since he’s just 23 years old, the Nigerian’s peak form is yet to come.

Lukaku has turned out to be a major flop at Stamford Bridge and while Auba has performed decently but the 33-year-old won’t be able to carry on for long. Just to keep in mind, Lukaku was firing on all cylinders when he was at Inter but as soon as he returned to England, he lost all his form and his confidence.

Given the competitiveness of the Premier League, there’s a chance that Victor Osimhen could suffer a similar fate but this is a risk Chelsea have to take because Graham Potter urgently needs a striker who can score 20-25 goals in a single season.
