WHUFC, Tottenham and Fulham have all been linked with Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay but there’s a possibility that all three sides could be left high and dry.
McTominay has come up through the ranks at Man United and since making his senior debut in 2017, the central midfielder has played in 176 games for the club in the Premier League alone. However, United are revamping their squad and most experts are of the view that backup players such as Casemiro and Scott McTominay will be sold.
However, Erik ten Hag has dropped a bombshell claiming that he does not intend to sell the 27-year-old despite interest from a few clubs.
The manager has said: “We have very good players so there will always be an interest from other clubs. When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very good for Scotland, then there will be an interest.
“But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, he could play in a more advanced role and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”
Will United really refuse to sell Scott McTominay?
Manchester United have already signed Zirkzee and Leny Yoro and in terms of midfield, they are holding talks with free agent Adrien Rabiot and PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.
United are said to be very close to agreeing on a deal for Ugarte and they are also keen to bring Rabiot on board. There’s no doubt Scott McTominay has been a top servant for the club but if both these players come on board then there’s no way the club will hold onto the Scotland international.
Casemiro is expected to join a Saudi Pro League side and we think, United will prefer to cash in on McTominay as well. His current market value is €32 million and if one of the three interested clubs is ready to pay around €35-40 million, Ten Hag will happily cash in on him.
At the moment, Fulham are said to be the favourites to sign the 27-year-old but given the chance, Scott McTominay will prefer to join either Tottenham or West Ham United.
However, McTominay’s exit is only going to happen if Manchester United are able to bring in at least two new central midfielders. Eriksen is going to leave the club very soon and once that happens, Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Mainoo will be the only central midfielders left in the squad. This basically means both Adrien Rabiot and Ugarte will have to come on board before the likes of Spurs, West Ham or Fulham have any chance of signing the Scottish international.
