Arsenal attacking midfielder Willian is actively looking to leave the club this summer but he could be trapped until his contract expires, as per Tuttomercatoweb.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had recently claimed that the Brazilian is really keen to move out of the club and even the Gunners do not wish to hold onto him any longer.

He said on his Here We Go Podcast: “We have many questions from Arsenal fans but talking about Willian, the situation is basically the same.

“The player wants to leave. Willian wants to leave Arsenal and Arsenal are open to selling him this summer.”

But according to TMW, no club has made a move to sign Willian mainly due to his high wages. And this one reason could force the player to remain at the Emirates stadium until his contract expires.

The 32-year-old joined the Gunners last summer as a free agent and this is why he is currently earning £220,000-a-week.

No one is ready to match these wages and with two years left on his current deal, this is turning out to be a major problem for the North London side.

Willian has failed to replicate his form from his Chelsea days, scoring just one and assisting five goals in 25 Premier League games last season.

The only way he can move out is by agreeing to a major wage cut or else it will be really difficult for the Gunners to get rid of him during the ongoing transfer window.

Currently, Willian is valued at £8 million but Arsenal might even offer a discount just to get him off their wage bills for the upcoming season.
