A report on Team Talk is claiming that Spanish giants Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Arsenal defender William Saliba.

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to add depth to his defensive department next season and Madrid have been linked with central defenders like Leny Yoro and William Saliba. Thanks to Mbappe arriving as a free agent, Real Madrid now have a larger budget for the summer window.

Arsenal had signed William Saliba in 2019 for a fee of around €30 million and after a couple of loan spells, the central defender returned to the Emirates Stadium in 2022 and since then, he has been one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League. He’s played 83 games for the Gunners and his current market value is €80 million with three more years remaining on his contract.

Will William Saliba be a good addition to the Madrid squad?

Saliba along with Gabriel have been just sensational for Arsenal and this season, he’s played in every league game. The pair has been one of the major reasons why the Gunners could challenge for the title until the final matchweek as they conceded just 29 goals which is the best defensive record in the top division this campaign.

Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho are all on the wrong side of 30 and a 23-year-old William Saliba will be the ideal replacement for one of these Madrid superstars. Not only is he great with the ball at his feet but in 38 league appearances, he has made 213 recovery runs, 29 interceptions and four blocks which means defensively he’s massively stable as well.

Can Real Madrid land the defender this summer?

Arsenal, after a long time, have found a really stable defensive partnership which is why they were in such a hurry to offer William Saliba a new deal.

Saliba’s new deal was a big sigh of relief for the North London team and it’s very hard to see him leaving during the upcoming transfer window. Obviously, an interest from Real Madrid is unmatched but William Saliba will want to remain in England, at least for the next season.

Arsenal will easily value him at more than €100 million but they will be reluctant to offload him any time soon. The defender is already a full-time France international and all eyes will be on him during the upcoming Euros in Germany. If William Saliba can deliver some eye-catching performances in the coming few weeks then it will definitely be interesting to see whether the Los Blancos are willing to pay around €120-130 million for him.
