FIFA drug test
FIFA World Cup

For some time now, FIFA has been plagued with issues of corruption and bribery and the African Football Federation has been at the forefront of the all the allegations.

Now in an act to clean up their image, the Confederation of African Football has handed out a life ban to one of its top referees due to charges of bribery.

The official in question is Marwa Range a Kenyan referee who was caught on tape taking a bride during the African Nations Championship in Morocco in January.

Range was seen receiving a $600 US ‘gift’ in an expose aired by BBC last month.

And ever since the tapes came out, the African football federation has been sent into a frenzy.

Marwa Range is not the only person who has been accused as there are 21 other officials who have been named in the tapes against taking bribes.

The 41-year-old is undoubtedly one of the most famous referees in African football and was a reserve official for the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil. He was also an assistant referee in the 2012 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and was an assistant referee at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.

Marwa Ranger was due to officiate in the 2018 World Cup being held currently but FIFA removed his name from the referees’ panel as soon as he was accused of taking bribes.

African football has been in the midst of controversies for some time now but with the strict ruling of Marwa Range, it seems that the governing body is finally taking concrete steps to clear its name.
