Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City could miss out on Borussia Dortmund ‘s 20-year-old centre-forward Erling Haaland, according to The Athletic.

The Guardian cite The Athletic saying: “Roman Abramovich has more moolah than most and it seems Chelsea want to reinforce their attacking resources even further with an eye-catching summer swoop for Erling Braut Haaland.

“According to the Athletic, the Borussia Dortmund star has a release clause in his contract that would allow him to leave if anyone offers €70m (£66.6m) for him but it will not become active until 2022.

“Yet the Blues believe rivals are currently too financially bruised by the pandemic to move for Haaland so want to get ahead of the curve this summer.”

Many rumours have since claimed that with so many clubs interested in signing the 20-year-old forward, BVB might very well look to cash in on him during the summer transfer window.

But according to football columnist Jan Aage Fjortoft, the German side have no intentions of selling Erling Haaland at the end of the 2020-21 season.

He wrote on Twitter: “I understand there is no chance he will leave Dortmund this summer. He has been at the club only one year.

“Throughout his career it has been all about development. He is 20 and at a good place right now”
