‘This’ key Liverpool player could miss the matches vs Man City & Chelsea next month: Big blow?

Liverpool signed Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City last summer and initially, a lot of eyebrows were raised over the transfer.

But during the course of last season, the winger proved his worth to Jurgen Klopp by coming up with a number of key performances.

Xherdan Shaqriri has returned back to pre-season training for Liverpool but there is a bit of bad news for the Liverpool fans.

The manager has confirmed that the Swiss international picked up an injury while he was on international duty this summer meaning he could be out for a fair amount of time.

“Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again,” Klopp told liverpoolfc.com.

“He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.”

And now reports are claiming that Xherdan Shaqiri could miss the first few weeks of the 2019-20 season due to this calf problem.

During the first week of the new season, Liverpool take on Manchester City in the Community Shield and then just 10 days later, they take on Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

While Xherdan Shaqiri is not expected to start in these games but Jurgen Klopp might very well miss him on the bench and this could be a bit of a blow since the German manager will be looking to try out as many players as possible during the first few games.

And both Man City and Chelsea too can breathe a little easy in case the winger cannot make himself fit before the clashes.

Last season, the Swiss international played in 24 Premier League games and most of these appearances came off the bench.

But despite having limited time on the pitch, Xherdan Shaqiri did manage to score 6 goals and provide 2 assists which is a pretty impressive feat.
