Pundit Noel Whelan has urged Arsenal to sign Youri Tielemans because he is the ideal successor to the 29-year-old Granit Xhaka.

The Gunners have been chasing the Leicester City man for the longest time and right now they are the favourites to land the Belgian international. According to Whelan, Tielemans has all the attributes to play in a slightly advanced role so he can perfectly compliment Thomas Partey in the middle of the pitch at Arsenal.

He tells Football Insider: “I’m a big fan of Tielemans. He’s a fantastic player – he’s like a Wijnaldum in that midfield, he does everything.

“He’s very competitive, great on the ball, good eye for a pass, set pieces. He can score goals as well.

“That’s an area where Xhaka has failed during his time at Arsenal. Partey is more of a sitting midfield player, and Tielemans could come in and get forward and cause problems.

“We know the quality he has. He would add that extra level above what Xhaka has offered over the years.”

Will Arsenal be able to bring Youri Tielemans on board?

The Gunners are not the only club who are chasing Youri Tielemans because Tottenham Hotspur have also registered an interest in him but we don’t think the Lilywhites will make any advancements because they have already gotten Yves Bissouma.

As things stand, it’s only a matter of time before Arsenal get their hands on the Belgian international because as per the latest developments, Leicester City are expecting a bid in the next 24/48 hours.

A fee of around £30 million should be enough to convince the Foxes and Arsenal know very well that personal terms will not be a problem.

A central midfielder is one of the main priorities for Mikel Arteta and since day one, the manager has his sights set on Youri Tielemans. If everything goes to plan then we expect this deal to be wrapped up by the end of this month.
