Arsenal were thought to be very close to signing Youri Tielemans but according to journalist Ryan Taylor, that might not be the case.

Recent reports were claiming that Arsenal are very confident of signing the midfielder which is why they are in no hurry whatsoever but Taylor has told GMS that all these rumours were mostly peddled by the agents.

He told Give Me Sport: “It’s an interesting one. The information I had was similar to others, that it’s been pulled.

“I was told not to write about Tielemans anymore with Arsenal and that it was very much agent-driven and has never been as close as has been suggested, which is strange because all signs were kind of pointing towards Tielemans happening with Jesus in the past few weeks.”

If this bit of news is true then it’s a major blow for Arsenal because Youri Tielemans was, from day one, likely to leave Leicester City and his next probable destination was always going to be the Emirates Stadium.

Leicester City are more than willing to part ways but if Tielemans is really not close to joining then Mikel Arteta will have to shift his focus to his alternatives.

Which players can be the alternative to Youri Tielemans?

Youri Tielemans is not the only midfielder who has been linked with Arsenal and now that the Leicester man is not close to joining them, the Gunners will have to reignite their interest in the other midfielders.

Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz is one name that has been linked with Arsenal this summer and the 26-year-old is more than ready to leave the Serie A this summer.

As per reports, Napoli are already scouting replacements for Fabian meaning Arsenal have a very good chance of signing him.

Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko is another player who’s also on Arteta’s radar and a few weeks ago, Arsenal were very actively chasing him.

Zinchenko plays as a left-back for Man City but for the Ukrainian national team he plays as a central midfielder and Mikel Arteta wants to use him in the same role at Arsenal.

We doubt if Arsenal have completely cooled off their interest in Youri Tielemans but after this report, it’s almost certain that the Gunners are not counting their chickens before they hatch.
