Liverpool have to pay €80m for this player who can replace Wijnaldum: Worth every penny?

Liverpool want Youri Tielemans as a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum next season but they will have to spend crazy amounts of money to sign him, as per reports.

Wijnaldum has moved out on a free transfer and Klopp is now looking at Tielemans to fill that gap in midfield. But getting his hands will not be easy since Leicester City are demanding around €70-80 million for his sale.

Sport Witness cite Belgian source Het Nieuwsblad writing: “Earlier this week, reports in England stated the Merseyside club have identified the Foxes midfielder as a potential candidate to replace Wijnaldum.

“Claims made in the British press have reached Belgium and Het Nieuwsblad on Thursday have provided their own information on this case.

“Any potential approach from Jürgen Klopp’s side in signing the former AS Monaco man will see them spend big because Leicester want €70-80m for Tielemans.”

Should Liverpool pay €80m for Youri Tielemans?

Ex-Liverpool star Emile Heskey has claimed that someone like Youri Tielemans will perfectly suit Liverpool’s style of play but at the same time, Klopp will find it really hard to snatch him away from Leicester City.

Heskey told Goal: “Tielemans is a fantastic player. Tielemans is the kind of player that would suit any midfield and any team.

“He excites you because he does the simple things very, very well – the simple passes from here to there and you look at them and think ‘that was crisp, that was nice’, that slide pass that sometimes gets cut out doesn’t with Tielemans because he is so crisp with his passing. He would fit into any team.

“The good thing for Leicester is, they don’t need to sell. You have got to pay, and you might have to pay over the odds. Leicester don’t need to sell, the player is happy. Winning the FA Cup helped, it would have helped even more if they had got into the Champions League but being in the Europa League is still good.

“I think he would suit the way that Liverpool play, but you would have to prise him from Leicester.”

Liverpool did not get a single penny from Wijnaldum’s summer exit meaning any money for his replacements will have to come straight out of their own pockets.

And while Youri Tielemans is one of the key figures for Brendan Rodgers but paying €75-odd million for the 24-year-old makes no sense.

But, on the other hand, Jurgen Klopp is set to sanction the sale of a few unwanted first-team players like Naby Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain so they could regather a large portion of Tielemans’ transfer fees from selling existing players.
