Liverpool and Manchester United have both shown an interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans during the summer, according to Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad.

The Anfield outfit have been looking at the 24-year-old as the long-term replacement to Wijnaldum for some time and now as per the rumours, Manchester United have also joined in, due to fears that Nemanja Matic could be heading out.

The report claims: “The 30-year-old midfielder leaves Liverpool on a free transfer, where he does not extend his contract. Ronald Koeman had wanted his fellow countryman at Barça before, but the precarious financial situation prevented that.

“Due to the departure of the Dutchman, Liverpool must look for a replacement. One of the names on the list is that of Red Devil Youri Tielemans.

“If the 24-year-old midfielder is allowed to be sold despite his contract until 2023, Liverpool could become one of the options. Just like Manchester United and Spanish top clubs.”

Wijnaldum is no on his way to Barcelona so Jurgen Klopp does not have any other option but to bring in a top-class replacement if he wishes to get back to the top of the Premier League table next season.

And given the great season that Youri Tielemans has had with Leicester City, the Belgian international will be the perfect fit alongside the likes of Fabinho and Thiago.

Pundits have also been urging Solskjaer to bring in a world-class central midfielder during the summer so it’s not a surprise that now Manchester United are also being linked with the 24-year-old.

Youri Tielemans, till now, has not hinted that he wishes to leave Leicester City for greener pastures next season but the Foxes have failed to qualify for the Champions League once again and many think this could be a key factor in determining his future.

Despite Leicester’s recent growth, Liverpool and Manchester United remain two of the biggest clubs in world football and Tielemans will have a much better chance at winning major trophies with these two sides as compared with Leicester.

The midfielder still has two more years left on his current deal so Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have too much to worry about just now but if Man United or Liverpool come up with a good enough offer for him then there’s every chance the manager might look to cash in on Youri Tielemans and use that money to reinforcement his other departments in the first-team squad.
