Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is expected to make a major overhaul to his squad during the summer transfer window and this means a lot of the current first team players will be released.

Keeping in line with this news, several reports are claiming that Everton are eyeing a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Smalling one of the few players left from the Ferguson era having signed for the club back in 2010 from Fulham for an undisclosed fee. But since then the English International had failed to make himself a first team regular despite showing some sparks of brilliance.

Jose Mourinho already has a host of centre-backs at his disposal and rumours have it that the United boss will not hesitate to let Smalling leave if the right offer comes by.

Everton have had a disastrous season after spending heavily during the past summer and the Toffees owner is once again ready to splurge cash at the end of the season.

Manchester United are said to be eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld and if such rumours hold true then there is a very slim chance that Smalling will be at Old Trafford next season.

Mourinho already has the likes of Bailly, Lindelof and Phil Jones and if Alderweireld comes it then Everton should not have any difficulty it grabbing the signature of Chris Smalling.
