Manchester City were fined £50,000 for failing to control their players against Wigan Atletic a couple of weeks ago and the Premier League leaders are walking a very thin line.

The players’ outburst against Wigan was Manchester City’s third similar charge in a span 14 months and if there is one more charge then they can easily face a points deduction.

An independent regulatory commission revealed: “The Commission Members were extremely concerned about the recent frequency of breaches by the club considering they had no such incidents on their five-season record prior to December 2016.

“These antecedents were considered a serious aggravating factor although not to the level to consider the deduction of points.”

Manchester City had similar complaints against Chelsea back in December 2016, and Liverpool in March 2017 and were fined both the times.

The commission has claimed that the current incident is not too serious to impose a points deduction right now.

But we feel that Pep Guardiola’s side escaped a ban primarily because they admitted the charge as soon as possible and took steps to ‘ensure better behaviour’.
