Manchester United forward Anthony Martial started the current season as one of Jose Mourinho’s favourites but ever since Alexis Sanchez joined the club during the January transfer window, the French International has fallen down the pecking order – so much so that he has been struggling for game time.

Since Sanchez moved to Old Trafford, he has had a guaranteed place in the starting line up meaning that Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are now fighting for a place in the team.

And to add to Martial’s woes, the likes of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have been churning out consistent performances and it is near impossible for Jose Mourinho to drop them to the bench.

Manchester United paid £36 million for the services of Martial in 2015 and the price tag could potentially rise to £58 million. Given the amount of money that the club have spent on him, the 22-year-old has not lived up to the expectations.

Now according to a report in the Mirror, the Old Trafford outfit are willing to sell him off during the summer transfer window in order to fund some of the new transfers.

United are planning to make a move for Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale at the end of the season and the Mirror are claiming that the United will cash in on Martial and use that money to fund Bale’s transfer.

Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Gareth Bale and ever since the Portuguese took charge of Man United, he has been trying to bring the Welshman to the club.

Now with Anthony Martial turning out to be a potential failure, Mourinho has decided to sell him off and bring Bale onboard.

A lot of clubs are said to be interested in signing the 22-year-old French International but it seems that Juventus and Spurs lead the race.

Juventus have been in long pursuit of Martial and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is also rumoured to be interested in signing the forward.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not famous for making big money signings but if Martial is truly available in the market then hopefully the Lilywhites can make an exception to their strict rules.
