Man United beat arch-rivals City in the Premier League this weekend and it was a Solskjaer masterclass at the Etihad.

Before the start of the match, City were the all-out favourites to win this game and keep their hunt for the league title alive but surprisingly it was the away side who started on the front foot and went ahead 2-0 in rather quick time.

Man United were clearly depending on counter-attacking football and to be honest every move they pulled off during the first half seemed to be working in a positive tone.

And this was mainly down to the pace and precision of the United forwards and even Guardiola has admitted that his player did not seem to have an answer to United’s pace – despite being fully aware of what they are capable of.

“I like how my team played,” he said via Standard. “We conceded a little bit more, not than usual, but than in the last years against United.

“We knew with the pace they had [Dan] James, [Anthony] Martial and [Marcus] Rashford because sometimes it is not possible to control it.

“In general, we did what we like. We arrived in the final third many, many, many, many times. Unfortunately, we couldn’t finish a little bit more but I like to watch my team. I know nobody agrees but I like it.

“Sometimes you don’t win and the others are better and you lose. Normal is not winning the league always, sometimes you lose.

“It is important not to give up and try to do what we do as a team. All the games we play a season we play the game I want my team to play. After that, the counter-attacks, the final third, when we struggle in some departments okay, it’s part of the process. Maybe next season we will be better.”

After the loss, City are now 14 points adrift Liverpool who occupy the top spot on the table and most people feel that Guardiola’s men might have run out of steam even before the first half of the season comes to an end.

Man United, on the other hand, have two back to back wins against big clubs meaning they are now 5th on the league table. And these results have mostly been due to the fact that their forward line has been able to click whenever needed.
