Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has revealed a lot in a recent interview with the Times.
The Gunners full-back in the candid interview has talked about a number of controversial topics ranging from homosexuality to criticism that he faces both on and off the pitch.
Bellerin revealed that he is often affected by the criticism and the negative comments that are hurled at him on various social media platforms.
And the Spaniard has also opened up about why it will be difficult for a footballer to come out as gay.
He said: ‘People have called me “lesbian” for growing my hair. There are other kinds of homophobic insults.
‘I have learnt to grow a thick skin but it can affect you. Every now and again, you get a bit of self-doubt.’

‘It is impossible that anybody could be openly gay in football.
‘Some fans are not ready. When it happened in rugby with the Welsh player [Gareth Thomas], people respected the situation. The fans respected his decision.
‘In football, the culture is different. It can be very personal, very nasty, particularly for players from the opposition team.’
After losing the first two games of the new Premier League season, the Gunners have gotten their campaign back on track with wins over West Ham United and Cardiff City.
After the international break, Arsenal hit the road in order to take on Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United side at St James’ Park.
