According to a report in The Sun(h/t London World), West Ham United will challenge Chelsea in the signing of Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Toney has been the subject of interest from Chelsea as well as Arsenal but in recent weeks, the Gunners have dropped out of the race and they will no longer chase the forward.

Chelsea continue their hunt for a new striker for the 2024/25 season and they have players like Toney as well as Victor Osimhen on their wishlist for the summer. However, David Moyes also seems to be interested in the Bees striker as he looks to bolster his forward line.

It’s almost certain that Brentford are ready to cash in on Ivan Toney but they will only allow him to leave if a club is ready to pay around £100 million for the England striker.

Chelsea might be running the risk of breaching FFP rules but they will bring in a lot of funds from player sales so they can afford to go after someone like Ivan Toney but it’s very hard to see West Ham United splashing such a huge amount on a single player.

The Hammers do have money left from Declan Rice’s sale to Arsenal plus they will also get a handsome amount if Moyes decides to sell Paqueta in the summer but we seriously doubt if the club’s management will spend the majority of their summer budget on the 28-year-old

Moyes currently has Michail Antonio and Danny Ings as his two centre-forward options and there’s no denying that a player like Ivan Toney can single-handedly solve West Ham’s goal-scoring issues but he is definitely not at the top of their wishlist for the summer.

Chelsea know what it will take to sign him from Brentford and they should be able to avoid an FFP breach by selling unwanted players like Madueke, Lukaku, Gallagher and Chalobah.

Also, if however, the Hammers did manage to gather the £100 million required to sign Toney, they won’t be able to promise the kind of wages that Chelsea will offer him for a move to Stamford Bridge.
