According to a report in Football Transfers, Arsenal are about to reignite their interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

The Gunners had previously tried to sign the 23-year-old before he went on to join Newcastle United in the summer of 2022 and since then, he’s scored 23 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Mikel Arteta remains in the hunt for a new striker for the second half of the season and Arsenal continue to be linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

However, the Bees are demanding £100 million for the English forward which is a big stumbling block for the Gunners. Also, London rivals Chelsea are interested in Toney and the Blues have the money to price out Arsenal in this transfer race.

With Toney becoming increasingly hard to sign, Arsenal are shifting their focus to their alternatives.

Players like Alexander Isak, Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic have been on Arteta’s link for a long time but talking about Isak, there’s no way Eddie Howe will part ways with the Swede in January.

Isak contracted with Magpies until 2028 and his current market value is around €70 million so Newcastle are in no hurry to offload him. This just means NUFC can quote an absurd fee that the Gunners just won’t be able to match.

Alexander Isak has scored nine goals in 15 appearances for Newcastle and he’s very happy with life at the club so there’s no reason for him to leave during the middle of the season.

Victor Osimhen is also someone whom Arsenal can’t afford so the Gunners are likely to make contact with some of their other targets, namely Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and Inter’s Lautaro Martínez.

The North London side spent more than £100 million on new signings in the summer and Mikel Arteta has already hinted that Arsenal might not add players to their squad during the January transfer window. If this happens then Arsenal will take Eddie Nketiah out of the market, a player who’s been tipped to leave this month.
