Manchester United have let Ander Herrera slip out of their hands this summer but Solskjaer believes he has players who can step into that same role.

Man United failed to convince the Spaniard to sign a new deal at the club which meant Ander Herrera went on to join PSG on a free transfer earlier this month.

And after joining the French champions he revealed that Man United were slow to offer him a new deal.

“I don’t like looking at the past but there were differences regarding the project and my importance within it,” he told Marca(as reported by Goal).

“I was very happy, I have a lot to thank the club for, the fans and also Solskjaer.

“He did a lot for me to stay, but things didn’t happen. They arrived late and, by then, I’d already made the decision to play in Paris.

“It has been fantastic. In five years I have played 189 games and I have been important for all the coaches,

“It is true that the MVP (Sir Matt Busby Award) makes one feel special and very happy, I keep every moment that I have lived.

Now though, speaking after Man United’s 4-0 win over Leeds United during their pre-season tour, Solskjaer has claimed that the likes of Andreas Pereira and Scotty McTominay have what it takes to fill up the void left behind by Ander Herrera.

“Jimmy is young, he’s very young – only 18 – so you can’t expect too much from him but you can see he is going to be a top player,” said Solskjaer(as reported).

“Andy [Pereira] I expect a lot more from, Scotty [McTominay] I expect a lot more from. Those two between them had maybe 15, 20 starts last season.

“You expect them to have at least 20 each this year, maybe even more. That’s maybe two players into one that can replace Ander Herrera.”

Ander Herrera was a real hard worker in midfield and surely Solskjaer would want someone like McTominay to emulate those exact efforts this coming season – with a lot more flair and attacking instinct.
