TalkSPORT co-host Joey Barton believes that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is ‘at war with people within the club.’

The former Man City and QPR midfielder feels that Conte’s emphatic personality has led to a clash of egos with some people at the club. Chelsea had a poor summer transfer window which clearly had an impact on the team’s performances at the beginning of the campaign. And just when their title defence was seemingly getting back on track, the Italian kept losing important players to injuries.

Barton said,“Conte is a big personality and I feel like he’s at war with people within the club,”

“There was something clearly not right in the summer when he came out against the way they conducted their transfer business.

“I think there’s something not quite right there at this moment in time.

“I honestly thought that if Man United won that game, it could have been the end of Conte, which is incredible thinking he’s the manager of the defending Premier League champions.

“It’s the level of their performances; the way they’re playing is not as flamboyant as they were last year and they’re not as dominant in games.

“You know Chelsea, they always have a contingency plan.”
