Man City are expected to have a busy summer transfer window as Pep Guardiola is keen to bring in some key reinforcements for the new season. But the manager has made it clear that Erling Haaland is not going to be on the club’s shopping list.
Erling Haaland is the talk of the town right now as his father and agent Mino Raiola are travelling across Europe meeting the top sides about a possible summer transfer. A few days ago they were in Spain and on Friday, the pair has been moving across London.
Man City are one of the sides who have been heavily linked with the young striker but manager Pep Guardiola has made it clear that his club’s not going to spend such absurd amounts of money on a single player.
“With these prices, we are not going to buy any striker,” Guardiola said at a press conference on Friday. “It is impossible, we cannot afford it.
“All the clubs struggle financially and we are not an exception. We have Gabriel [Jesus], Ferran [Torres], a lot of players in the academy, and we sometimes play with a false nine. There are a lot of big chances that we are not going to sign a new striker for next season.
“We have enough players in the first team right now and interesting players in the Academy. It is a big challenge, for the situation in the world, because of the economic problems in world football, we are not going to sign any striker for next season.”
Clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man City, Man United, Chelsea have all been linked with the Borussia Dortmund man but the German side have reportedly slapped a 180 million euro price tag on the forward.
And right now, this is the one big reason that all the interested clubs are concerned about.
Guardiola might have announced that he is not going to splurge so much money on Erling Haaland but this does not mean Man City are out of the transfer race.
The think tank at the Etihad club will still be monitoring the situation very closely since only a handful of clubs are capable of paying such a massive sum for the Norwegian and if these sides are not ready to spend so much then BVB will have to bring their asking price down.
