Man United take on AS Roma this week in the Europa League and the Italian side will definitely be trying to punch above their weights, especially with Pedro likely to miss out.

Pedro joined Roma from Chelsea last summer and his knowledge of Man United would have come really handy in trying to dismantle the Premier League side. But as per the latest reports, the 33-year-old is still recovering from a muscle injury and is not expected to be fit in time for the first leg.

The reports claim that Pedro has just started individual training and he’s aiming to return to the pitch sometime next week.

TMW claims: “Pedro, Mirante and Calafiori continued to work in a personalized way, while all the others trained in groups. For Nicolò Zaniolo I usually work divided between Spring and individual work.”

Thankfully, all is not doom and gloom for manager Paulo Fonseca since Chris Smalling has returned to the pitch and the former Man United man played 60 odd minutes against Cagliari.

The Roma boss said: “He did very well. It was important to get Chris at least 45 minutes of playing time, he had more than that, and I think it was positive.

“Now he has the chance to play against Manchester United.”

This is surely a timely boost for Roma since the Italian side operates with a three-man defensive line so Chris Smalling will slot straight back into the starting line-up on Thursday.

The fact that Mancini is serving a European ban makes Smalling’s comeback even more important.
