The Manchester City juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down and Pep Guardiola’s men cemented their top spot on the league table with a 6-1 win over Southampton.

City were easily the best attacking side last season but this year Pep Guardiola has also worked on his defence and the result are clearly visible during the first 11 games of the Premier League.

Man City have scored a staggering 33 goals this season and have managed to concede only four goals.

Yes, just four goals.

And centre-back Aymeric Laporte is one of the biggest reasons for that rock solid defence.

Laporte joined Manchester City during the January transfer window for a reported fee of £57 million and it seems that Guardiola has spent the money pretty well.

In fact, Aymeric Laporte has been so good this season that he has managed to achieve something that no other player has done in the history of football.

Laporte has so far played 19 games for Manchester City – winning 17 games and drawing two of them. This means Manchester City are yet to lose a game when Aymeric Laporte plays.

And in doing so, the 24-year-old has played more games without losing than any other player in the history of the competition.

Speaking about his players after the 6-1 win over Southampton, Pep Guardiola said:

“It’s a joy to be [the] manager of them because they follow what we tell them,

“In training, I try to argue why we should play this way. It’s a joy and a pleasure for the staff. Mikel [Arteta] insists on many things and everyone is there to help the guys to be better.

“If at the end of our period here they are better than when we arrived, then well played to everyone.

“At 3-1, they created problems for us,

“Their crosses were always dangerous and we had problems controlling long balls.

“Scoring in the last minute of the first half made it better for us in the second.

“Southampton, I felt, could score more. But at the same time, we also could have scored more goals.

“We were clever in final spaces. It is not easy. Southampton did not give up.

“I admire Mark [Hughes] and his players, they create more chances more than any other team we have played this season.

“In [the] second half, we had more control and we have more chances, though of course by that time, the game was over.

“But before that, Southampton were there. Big compliment for them.”
