Dayot Upamecano & Ibrahima Konate
v.li.: Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig, 6), Reinhold Yabo (Salzburg, 7), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, 5); Aktion, action

Despite a sharp interest, it seems like Arsenal will not be able to get their hands on Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano – with Bayern Munich reportedly joining the transfer race.

Dayot Upamecano has been one of the most talked-about central defenders in the Bundesliga this season having played in 21 league games this season and it’s almost certain the player will be leaving Leipzig this summer transfer window.

Up until now, Arsenal were said to be the only club interested in signing the player but over the past couple of days, Manchester United seem to have also registered an interest in the central defender.

And now to make matter worse, Bayern Munich have officially entered the race to sign Dayot Upamecano for the upcoming season.

Are Bayern Munich the frontrunners?

If the interest from Bayern Munich is serious then we do not think the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United even stand a chance in this transfer race.

Firstly, Bayern Munich are currently a powerhouse in European football while Arsenal, in particular, are still struggling to make it back amongst the big boys.

There’s a very slim chance the Gunners will be able to get back in the UCL next season meaning if given a choice Dayot will most certainly choose a move to the Allianz Arena.

Also, Arsenal have a long-list of central defenders at their disposal right now whereas Bayern Munich are set to lose Jerome Boateng in the summer meaning Dayot Upamecano can slot right in without might of a competition.

The defender is about to enter the final year of his contract at Leipzig meaning the club might have no other option but to sell him off this summer. But with so many clubs interested in him, Leipzig will surely try and squeeze out as much money as possible from this deal.

It’s still unclear how this transfer saga will pan out but clearly Bayern Munich have the upper hand in this deal right now while Arsenal seem to have fallen down the pecking order.
