SPFL has already come to the decision to end the 2019-20 Scottish Premiership season right now meaning Celtic FC are on the verge of being named the 2019-20 champions.
But there were some fears that UEFA might intervene into this matter since they did not take the ending of the Belgian Pro League too well, threatening to take strict actions against the domestic leagues which followed this path.
This meant Rangers FC still had a hope to stop Celtic FC from lifting the trophy without a proper fight but UEFA have now released a statement which basically means that the Gers have lost even their final piece of optimism.
The official statement read: “UEFA today met its 55 member associations via videoconference and presented an update of the options being looked into by the two working groups that were created mid-March.
“A variety of calendar options were presented covering both national team and club competition matches.
“There was a strong recommendation given to finish domestic top division and cup competitions, although it is understood that there may be some special cases. With this in mind, UEFA is currently developing some guidelines concerning participation in its club competitions, in order to assist its member associations in case of a cancelled league or cup.
“Any developments on the above topics would be announced after the UEFA Executive Committee on Thursday.”
So clearly, UEFA have decided to soften their tone regarding this matter meaning there’s a very big chance that they might allow the various leagues to carry forward with this decision.
The Belgian and the Scottish leagues aren’t the only who have chosen to end the 2019-20 season immediately with the Serbian league also doing the same.
Right now, Celtic FC are 13 points clear at the top of the table having played one game more than their arch-rivals Rangers FC who second on the list.
