Rangers FC signed more than a dozen new players during the summer transfer window while their Glasgow rivals Celtic FC had an equally bad outing.

But despite all the differences during the summer, both teams have made a neck to neck start to the new Scottish Premiership and now the Hoops are already making plans for the January transfer window.

Celtic are second on the league table with 10 points and Brendan Rodgers knows pretty well that the second half of the season will be a neck to neck competition. So the manager is planning to bring in a couple of reinforcements during the January transfer window – as per reports.

And one player who is currently on the radar of Celtic is Newcastle United midfielder, Sean Longstaff.

Longstaff, 20 is a youth team product of the Magpies and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to have come out of the Newcastle academy during recent times.

But his failure to break into Rafa Benitez’s first team has put serious doubts over his career at St James’ Park.

Sean Longstaff’s contract expires in the summer of 2019 and multiple reports suggest the midfielder could be on his way out of the club at the start of the new year. And Celtic FC seem to be leading the race to sign this youngster.

Rangers FC had eyed a move for Sean Longstaff during the summer transfer window and many rumours suggested that the Gers manager will once again go back for the player next summer – once he is a free agent.

But now it seems that Celtic have already performed a coup by intending to sign the player in January itself.

And now we will have to wait and see whether Celtic FC sign Sean Longstaff in January itself or they offer the midfielder a pre-contract agreement.
