Celtic return back into the Europa League this week as they take on Lazio at Parkhead on Thursday. And there are rumours that this high-profile encounter could see a big of chaos especially from the travelling Italian fans.
A number of Lazio fans were found guilty of racist chanting which is why the UEFA have fined the club and have also asked them to shut down the Curva Nord section of their stadium when Celtic travel to Rome next month.
And this why some people feel the travelling Lazio fans might try and disrupt this week’s encounter in Glasgow.
While the Parkhead staff will be ready for any kind of issues but the Lazio security manager has come out to urge the travelling fans to behave on Thursday.
He said(as reported): “We have given lots of information to our supporters. We couldn’t be more clear.
“Unfortunately, we still have a minority of fans who believe it’s acceptable to give the Roman Salute and to make rascist comments.
“This is unacceptable and no longer tolerable. We want there to be a healthy relationship with the fans, not this relationship, which has been spoiled for so many years.
“We have repeatedly told them we have zero tolerance for this behaviour. The image of Lazio abroad is very important to us. It counts a lot to us. Our credibility is on the line.
“When UEFA punish us, they are punishing our thousands of well-behaved fans.”
Celtic are currently leading Group E with four points while Lazio are third with three points. But if the Bhoys fail to pick up a win on Thursday then surely they will slide down from the top spot and might also find themselves towards the bottom of the table.
Lazio have been in a fine run in the Serie A this season and the Rome outfit have lost just one out of their past five matches in the league meaning it will be an uphill task for the Bhoys to pick up a win vs Simone Inzaghi’s side.
