One of Gerrard’s priorities this summer is to bring in a new central defender and recent reports had suggested that the Rangers boss is interested in a Charlton Athletic man.

As per the rumours, the Gers manager has been keeping tabs of Charlton Athletic centre-back Patrick Bauer who is set to become a free agent this summer.

Bauer started his youth career at Stuttgart and in 2015 the defender joined Charlton Athletic from Maritimo.

During the 2018-19 season, the 26-year-old played in 39 games across all competitions for Championship club.

Patrick was the hero for Charlton Athletic during their Wembley play-off as he scored the winning goal which helped the club return back to the second-tier of English football.

But now Charlton are facing a real challenge to hold onto him especially with a host of clubs interested in signing him.

Clubs like Wigan and Millwall are said to be interested in signing the defender but up until now, it was believed that Rangers lead the race.

Now though, it is being reported that Hibs have also joined the race and will now challenge the likes of Rangers in the transfer battle.

This will surely be a big blow for the Gers since so many teams interested in signing Bauer but the fact that Rangers are ready to challenge for the Premiership next season might just give them an upper hand.

Having said that though, Charlton Atheltic have not yet given up hope in keeping Patrick Bauer at the club.

Some reports suggest that Charlton Athletic are still trying hard to make the centre-back put pen on paper to a new deal and some people at the club believe that he might very well agree to a new contract since they have now been promoted to the Championship.
