Arsenal are in the midst of a crisis but according to Paul Merson, Chris Wilder could be the man to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates.
Right now, there are a number of people who want Unai Emery to be sacked as the Arsenal boss despite the management showing faith in him.
According to reports, if the Gunners’ performances do not improve significantly in the next weeks then the Spanish manager could be shown the door at the start of the new year.
And while everyone has come up with his own personal choice to replace Emery, according to Merson, current Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder might just do the magic at the North London club.
“Chris Wilder has done a fantastic job at Sheffield United and deserves a crack at a really big job at some point,” Merson told the Daily Star[as reported].
“We should all be talking about him right now but we’re not. Maybe his name’s too English? But look at what he’s achieved.
“He was successful at Oxford and Northampton. Two tough jobs. And he’s taken Sheffield United back into the Premier League.
“They are not keeping all those clean sheets by sticking ten men behind the ball either. They play some lovely stuff, get people in the box, and have a go at teams.
“I watched them play Arsenal and there was only one team who knew what they were doing. Arsenal had no idea. That’s good coaching.
“Managers like Unai Emery and Manuel Pellegrini are under pressure, and okay you never know for sure if a manager can make such a big step up.
“But Chris Wilder has got to be in the conversation the next time a big job comes up. He deserves it.”
Chris Wilder has been great at Sheffield United this season and the Blades are currently fifth on the Premier League table with 17 points.
They remain unbeaten in their last five league matches but we feel Chris Wilder could have the David Moyes issue.
While Moyes looked completely at home when he was in charge of Everton, he just did not know what to do when he was appointed as the next Man United manager after Sir Alex left the club.
And we believe that with such big names and big troubles to sort out, Chris Wilder could have the same dilemma if he moves to Arsenal from Sheffield United.
