Liverpool take on Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 next week.

And before the high profile clash, Jurgen Klopp seems to have a defensive crisis.

Virgil Van Dijk is already ruled out of the game due to suspension and right now there are serious doubts over the fitness of Dejan Lovren.

This means that going into the match, Joel Matip might be the only fit defender that Liverpool have amongst their ranks.

Dejan Lovren is recovering from a hamstring injury and while Jurgen Klopp has refused to rule him out for the game vs Bayern Munich but right now things do not look good for the Croatian.

The Liverpool boss revealed that Dejan Lovren would be tested at Melwood once the squad return back from their warm-weather training at Marbella but now it looks like the central defender will not be joining the rest of the squad.

Reports suggest that the World Cupper has headed back to Croatia in order to get specific treatment for his hamstring.

And all this rush is so that Lovren can be readied before Bayern Munich visit town next week.

Joe Gomez has just undergone an operation for a broken ankle meaning the youngster will be out for a long time.

So with Gomez and Van Dijk out of the picture if Dejan Lovren cannot make himself fit then Klopp might just have to push a midfielder into central defence in order to partner Joel Matip.

Xherdan Shaqiri is also out with an abdominal injury but the summer signing should not be a major concern for the Champions League clash.
