A couple of days ago, ExWHUemployee had claimed that West Ham United had reignited their interest in midfielder Amadou Onana and it looks like the Hammers have already set the ball rolling.

West Ham have seen a few bids for Onana rejected earlier in the summer but according to Sky Sports Dharmesh Sheth, Moyes has asked his board to go back for the 20-year-old.

Dharmesh Sheth has written on Twitter: “West Ham United still pushing to sign midfielder Amadou Onana. They remain in talks with Lille.

“Discussions centre around fee and structure of payments. West Ham’s last bid was for €38m.”

Do West Ham United really need the Lille youngster?

Amadou Onana joined Lille just last summer and as per reports, the Ligue 1 side are holding out for £50 million.

He still has several years left on his current deal so Lille are in no hurry to cash in on him but there’s no denying that £50 million is a lot of money for someone who’s just had two seasons’ worth of senior experience.

He played his first senior season with Hamburger SV and last season, he made 43 appearances across all competitions for Lille.

The Irons have already added Flynn Downes to their squad and even Thomas Soucek is not going anywhere but it’s clear that David Moyes is eager to add even more depth to his midfield department, primarily because Mark Noble has left.

West Ham United are sure to return with a fresher and better offer for Amadou Onana but signing the youngster will be nothing short of a gamble.

Last season, he had a rating of 6.86 out of 10 but the Premier League is very different from the Ligue 1.

We have a feeling the West Ham boss wants Onana as one for the future because there’s every chance Thomas Soucek could head for greener pastures at the end of next season.
