According to a report by 90min, Manchester City have plans to negotiate a new contract with Erling Haaland amidst interest from Barcelona as well as Real Madrid.

City had paid around £51 million for the striker to sign him from Borussia Dortmund and his contract with MCFC expires in 2027 but as per the rumours, there are several release clauses which are activated from the summer of 2025 onwards.

One of the release clauses is an upfront fee of £150 million which kicks in in 2025 and Madrid along with Barcelona are eager to bring him in by activating this clause.

Erling Haaland has been on fire since joining MCFC already scoring 58 goals in 59 appearances for the Cityzens and right now, the 23-year-old is one of the best strikers in the world.

Will Erling Haaland sign a new deal with MCFC or will he move to the La Liga?

Erling Haaland has always been linked with Real Madrid and two years later, paying £150 million for such a top talent should not be an issue for Florentino Perez. Barcelona though are amidst a massive financial crisis but they should be able to come out of it by the time Haaland’s release clause is activated.

Manchester City will obviously not want to lose a player like Erling Haaland so they will trigger extension talks as soon as possible but we have a feeling Haaland will look to leave in 2025.

The striker has already won the English treble in his first season in the Premier League and if MCFC repeats the feat this campaign then Erling Haaland will have no reason to remain in England.

City are currently the best club in the world but joining Barcelona or Real Madrid will definitely be a step up for the Norway international.

Haaland’s current market value is £159 million and if he continues the same level of performance then a release clause of £150 million in 2025 will be an absolute steal. The 23-year-old conquered the Bundesliga in two years and now he’s also ruling the EPL so there’s every chance he will want to become the king of the Spanish top division.

Madrid have successfully revamped their ageing midfield and they are the favourites to bring in Kylian Mbappe next summer. Now, if they can sign Erling Haaland then the Los Blancos will have an undisputed team for another half a decade.

For Barcelona, Erlign Haaland will be the natural replacement for 35-year-old Robert Lewandowski but the club will have to really sweat it out to shell out so much money on one single player. Currently, they are mostly signing players as free agents or on loan deals but hopefully, in two years’ time, they will have sorted out their finances.

Manchester City will try everything they can to hold onto the striker and tie him down to a new and improved deal but a player usually leaves a team/league when he’s won everything in that country and Erling Haaland has already achieved this in his first campaign in the EPL.
