Arsenal’s lack of defensive depth was laid bare open after William Saliba’s recent injury which is why the Gunners are probably scouting Fikayo Tomori, reports 90 Min.

Fikayo Tomori left Chelsea in the summer of 2021 as he went on to join Milan for a fee of £25 million. The 25-year-old has impressed since moving to Italy and he’s been one of the main reasons why the Rossoneri have reached the Champions League semi-finals this season.

He’s featured in 28 league games this season and the Gunners had sent scouts to watch the central defender in action last Saturday. The centre-back played in only 26 games during his time at Chelsea but he’s levelled up since moving to Italy and like Arsenal, a few other clubs will probably want to sign him too.

Do Arsenal need someone like Fikayo Tomori?

Arsenal have done really well this season but the lack of squad depth has really hurt them during the final quarter of the campaign.

William Saliba’s injury has completely altered the team’s balance and even though Rob Holding has done a decent job but Mikel Arteta will need one or two new centre-backs next season.

Currently, Fikayo Tomori is valued at £40 million which is a great price bracket for Arsenal but bringing him back to the Premier League could be a major gamble. Also, Man United and Newcastle scouts were also present in that match against Roma so the North London side will have to be ready for a possible transfer battle.

Tomori has been doing great at Milan but the Italian league is vastly different from the English one so there’s no guarantee that the 25-year-old will be able to replicate his form from this season.

Also, at Milan, has started in 27 league games this campaign so he will demand regular starts from whichever team that wants to sign him in the summer.

Based on his current performances and his price tag, Fikayo Tomori can turn out to be a great buy for Arsenal but his track record for Chelsea is really poor and since the Gunners will be playing in the Champions League, Mikel Arteta cannot afford to make any risky and gamble signings in the summer.
