Barcelona are not inclined to offload Frenkie de Jong in the summer but a super lucrative transfer fee will force them to change their stance, claims Mundo Deportivo.

Barca still value De Jong as an asset to the club however, if an interested club is ready to pay around €100 million for the central midfielder the Catalans will allow him to leave.

It’s hardly a surprise that a big transfer fee will break Barcelona’s resolve because the Catalans are in dire need of funds and they will have to sell some big players so that they can balance their books in the summer.

Frenkie de Jong resisted an exit last summer and he is still very much happy with life at the club but Barca’s financial fortunes have not gotten any better so the midfielder could very well be on his way out this time around. €100 million might seem a lot but the Dutch international is contracted until 2026 and his current market value is €80 million so Barcelona’s ask isn’t unjustified at all.

Is Frenkie de Jong finally set to move to England?

Manchester United, obviously, are the biggest suitors of the Dutch midfielder, followed by Chelsea. Now, just to make things interesting, rumours are suggesting that Tottenham have also made a €60 million offer for the midfielder.

Even if this report is true, Spurs’ valuation is way off Barcelona’s ask so if they are serious they will have to come back with an improved offer.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag has been wanting De Jong in his side since day one and they almost went down on their necks to try and convince the midfielder to join them last year. United’s stance on this €100 million valuation is still unknown but it won’t be a surprise if they are willing to break the bank for the 26-year-old.

United and Tottenham’s moves are still in limbo but the reports are suggesting that Chelsea will not mind spending €100 million on Frenkie de Jong.

The Blues have spent crazy amounts of money to bring in midfielders like Enzo, Caicedo and Romeo Lavia and they are showing no signs of slowing down. Chelsea will have to sell players to be able to avoid an FFP breach in the summer however, Todd Boehly is still harbouring aggressive feelings for the upcoming transfer market.

With Casemiro likely to leave at the end of this season, Man United will really wish to bring Frenkie de Jong on board during the summer but they will have a serious battle on hand if Chelsea are willing to pay €100 million.

Spurs are the latest entrant in this transfer race but they are never going to spend so much on a single player. Yes, they have a lot of money left from Harry Kane’s sale to Bayern but Daniel Levy would much rather use those funds to rebuild the whole squad instead of spending it on the Barcelona midfielder.
