Manchester United will challenge EPL rivals Chelsea and Manchester City in the race to sign Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.

Man United will get rid of Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at the end of this season which is why the club’s actively searching for new centre-backs. Man City and Chelsea are also planning an overhaul and as per some experts, these two sides have been keeping tabs on the youngster for several months.

Giorgio Scalvini is a product of Atalanta’s youth academy and the 20-year-old has been a regular feature for the senior side since the 2021/22 season. This season, he’s started in all but one of the club’s Serie A matches, playing 2068 minutes of league football.

According to Whoscored, Scalvini is good with the ball at his feet and making key interceptions is one of his strong suits. Whoscored also claims that the 20-year-old does not have any significant weaknesses.

He is a right-footed centre-back who is technically very sound and this season, he’s won nearly 70% of his aerial duels. The Italian defender has also been likened to Alessandro Bastoni.

Giorgio Scalvini is someone who will not sit back deep and invite pressure on the backline rather he is someone who constantly looks to press high, win duels and seize control of the ball.

Inter and Juventus are interested in the defender as well but according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.it, Atalanta will demand around €50 million to sell Giorgio Scalvini in the summer and there’s no way the Italian sides can afford to pay such a price for a single player.

For Chelsea, Man United and Man City, however, this is a very reasonable transfer fee and if Scalvini can replicate his form in the EPL, the 20-year-old can turn out to be a bargain buy.

However, apart from the three English giants, Real Madrid and Bayern are also keeping tabs on the centre-back and these two are very realistic challengers.

Giorgio Scalvini recently signed a new contract, following which Scalvini claimed that he is very happy at the club.

The defender told Tuttosport (via Tutto Mercato): “I am grateful to the club, I am very attached to the Atalanta family.

“I was a child and now I am becoming a man in this shirt. I am very happy to be here; my only thought is Atalanta and I only want to improve by working every day.”

However, Atalanta will sell him if a club is willing to meet their financial demands and if the prodigy is available for as low as €50 million, there’s going to be a frenzy.
