Spurs take on Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on Sunday and just days before that, the club chose to sack Jose Mourinho. Now to make matters worse, the Lilywhites might have to take the field in this key match without Harry Kane.

Harry Kane has been the main star for Spurs this season, scoring as many as 21 goals and providing 13 assists in 30 Premier League games. But the forward picked up an ankle injury during Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Everton on Friday evening.

And this injury has now forced him to miss the club’s midweek win vs Southampton.

Some people hoped Harry Kane would be rested in midweek just to make sure he was fully fit for the EFL Cup final on Sunday but Ryan Mason has admitted the forward has not yet returned to training, thereby putting him in serious doubt for the Man City game.

The interim boss said on Wednesday: “Harry didn’t train today and it’s a case of taking it day by day. We’re still not sure about the weekend yet, but what we do know is that Harry is working extremely hard to get over this injury.

“He’s a top professional and will be doing all he can to get fit as soon as possible. There is no time scale on it but, hopefully, he won’t be out for too long.”

This is indeed a massive blow for Tottenham since Harry Kane and Son have been pretty much dragging the side this season. And if the England international is not present against a team like Manchester City, then it will be almost impossible for the London side to come out as the winners on the other side.

Against Southampton, Ryan Mason used Lucas as his main centre-forward and the interim coach could use the same ploy vs Man City as well.

The absence of Harry Kane means Gareth Bale gets to start on the right wing and the Real Madrid loanee put his name on the scoresheet against the Saints and Mason will be hoping the Welshman can pull the rabbit out of the hat on Sunday as well.
