According to journalist Christian Falk, Florian Wirtz is going to opt for a move to Bayern Munich instead of joining Real Madrid next year.

Initially, there were rumours that the midfielder was going to leave this summer but now that seems highly unlikely. An exit at the end of the 2024/25 season is much more probable and some rumours have suggested that Florian Wirtz has already agreed on personal terms with Real Madrid.

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Carro had said two months ago: “Florian Wirtz will stay with us next season. The plan is clear, together with his father.

“There’s interest from many clubs, we can’t plan too long in football but he’s staying. He could win the Ballon d’Or one day.”

Is Florian Wirtz doing the correct thing by choosing Bayern Munich?

Florian Wirtz wants to continue with Bayer Leverkusen next season so that he can continue his development but as per Falk, the attacking midfielder is very keen to play for Bayern Munich.

It looks like it is Wirtz’s dream to play for the Bavarians but the youngster should be sensible and practical while choosing his next destination.

Not only are the Los Blancos a much bigger European force at the moment but at the Bernabeu, he will have the chance to play a lot more games.

Both Madrid and Bayern are blessed with two top attacking midfielders in the form of Bellingham and Jamal Musiala so Florian Wirtz will face competition at both teams. But, at least Jude Bellingham can play as a central midfielder as well so it will be slightly easier for Wirtz to settle down.

This season, the England international has been used in a much more advanced role by Carlo Ancelotti but last campaign, he was a proper central midfielder with Borussia Dortmund. And, if Wirtz was to join Real, it wouldn’t be a problem for Ancelotti to push Jude Bellingham into a more central role alongside the likes of Tchouameni and Camavinga.

The 21-year-old has 38 goal contributions in just 49 appearances for Leverkusen this past season and if he can back it with another top performance next season then there’s no way he will be content with being a benchwarmer.

At Bayern Munich, he will face a much sterner contest from Jamal Musiala because the German international can either play as a No 10 or as a left winger. While Bellingham will be more than happy to play as a central midfielder because he’s very much comfortable in that role, we doubt if Musiala will do the same to accommodate Florian Wirtz into the first XI.

Also, Florian Wirtz is currently valued at €130 million but because his contract does not have a release clause, Leverkusen will quote all sorts of crazy figures. While Real Madrid won’t mind breaking the bank for the midfielder, Bayern will think long and hard before spending €150-odd million on a single player.

In our opinion, if the Leverkusen midfielder wants to continue his exponential growth then he must choose Madrid over a move to Bayern Munich.
