Lisandro Martinez picked up yet another knee injury during Manchester United’s win over West Ham United on Sunday and the defender is going to miss a few weeks of action.

Martinez had just come back from a long-term injury and on Sunday he jarred his knee while tussling with Vladimir Coufal on the touchline and he had to be immediately taken off. The knock looked problematic from the start and speaking after the match, Erik ten Hag explained that the injury looked bad and he could be out for some time.

“I can’t tell the detail but it seems bad,” he told the press after the 3-0 win. “We’ll see what is going on. In this moment, we’re very sad about this but, hopefully, it’s not too bad. We can only pray.

“We have to find out in the next days what is the diagnosis. It’s very bad for him and very bad for the team.”

Thankfully, according to the latest reports, Lisandro Martinez has not torn his ACL. The centre-back has a sprained collateral ligament which will not require surgery and Manchester United are expecting him to be out for around a month.

If the reports are right then Lisandro Martinez will miss seven matches out of which there is one Manchester Derby at the start of next month. Apart from that game, all the other fixtures are very much winnable without the Argentine in the back line.

Raphael Varane and Erik ten Hag have reportedly mended ways and are now on the same page so the Frenchman should be moving up the pecking order.

Harry Maguire was playing great before he picked up an injury and now that he is back, the England international will pair up with Varane in central defence. Man United have picked up momentum in their previous couple of matches and Ten Hag will just be praying that the injury to Lisandro Martinez does not hamper his team’s good run of form.
