Barcelona have shown an interest in signing Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez but as per Mundo Deportivo [h/t Sport Witness], the forward does not wish to move out in the summer.

Recent reports have suggested that Barca might be planning to cash in Robert Lewandowski and they want Nunez to replace the ageing striker. However, this move is unlikely to happen because Darwin Nunez is very happy at Anfield and he wishes to continue under the incoming manager.

Lewandowski was considered one of the untouchables in the Barcelona squad but the club’s needs for finances are massive and reportedly no player is safe during the upcoming transfer window. Darwin Nunez is still on the Catalans’ wishlist but now, it will be doubly hard to bring him out of Liverpool.

Is Darwin Nunez doing the right thing by rejecting Barcelona?

The forward might have scored 18 goals this season but he’s also faced a lot of criticism for his glaring misses. Klopp has put a lot of faith in him this campaign despite the South American scoring just 33 goals in close to 100 appearances for the club.

Darwin Nunez is hoping that Arne Slot will also have the same confidence in him but things can go south very quickly if the new manager decides to bring Santiago Gimenez with him to Liverpool.

Gimenez has been prolific for Feyenoord this season, scoring 23 goals in 30 league appearances and many experts believe that Slot wants him as his main hitman at Anfield.

If Liverpool agree to Arne Slot’s demand and go get Santiago Gimenez then it will be curtains for Darwin Nunez. They already have Jota and Cody Gakpo who can play up front and if someone like Gimenez is coming in then Liverpool won’t have any use for Nunez.

He’s still 24 years old and at Barcelona, he will have the chance to replace a player Robert Lewandowski so we firmly believe that Darwin Nunez should push for a move to Spain. Unless Arne Slot has already assured Nunez about his place in the side next season, there’s no guarantee that he will be the main striker so it’s best for him to move out and become a star at Barcelona.
