Rangers FC manager has confirmed that he is planning to offer Steven Davis a new permanent deal at the club during the summer.
The manager though has made it clear that the decision is yet to be finalised but he is hoping the 34-year-old would join the Ibrox outfit as a free agent when his deal with Southampton expires at the end of the current season.
So naturally, with the possibility of keeping a central midfielder at the club, Gerrard has now made a decision to release Jason Holt – as per reports.
Jason Holt came up through the Hearts academy and eventually arrived at Rangers in the summer of 2015.
But this season, the player is out on loan to League One side Fleetwood Town where he has made 36 appearances in all competitions so far.
Steven Gerrard clearly does not fancy the 26-year-old and reports are claiming that the manager has already informed Jason Holt that he is free to leave during the summer transfer window.
Right, the Rangers boss has the likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis, Ross McCrorie and Scott Arfield so it makes no sense to bring back Holt and clog the midfield area with so many players.
The report suggests that Fleetwood Town might be interested in a permanent deal for the midfielder but these rumours are not yet concrete.
Jason Holt has made 116 appearances for Rangers ever since he joined the club and the midfielder is without a doubt a pretty fine talent.
Unfortunately, though, he has no future under the Steven Gerrard regime and we are more or less certain that he would not be wearing the blue of Rangers any more.
